Making Driving Safer with Augmented reality

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Rocksolid AR (Making Driving Safer with Augmented reality)

Reporting period: 2024-06-01 to 2025-05-31

Global automotive industry is undergoing dramatic change, affected by multiple large scale events and trends (electrification and the transition to software defined vehicle (SDV) are the two largest ones). Our project addresses the latter, software defined vehicle. Automotive OEMs need to internalize more and more software development as opposed to the current way of outsourcing major part of it. SDV requires the OEM to be able to constantly develop and offer new features to their customers.
Our software is a development tool for creating Augmented Reality applications that drivers and passengers see in different screens in the car. These include Heads Up Display in the windshield as well as other screens, e.g. instrument cluster, center and rear seat screens and e-mirrors.
Our software enables automotive OEMs to develop all AR and other user interfaces by themselves as opposed to having to subcontract this development to outside companies. This results in the OEM being able to constantly modify the applications and add new features over time.
This project's main objective is to advance the AR technology ecosystem, ultimately enabling the creation and deployment of immersive AR applications.
To reach the objectives, this project encompasses the development of the Rocksolid AR Studio and AR SDK, refinement of the software and architecture, and total system safety validation, ensuring seamless integration with third-party components and meeting the highest standards of safety and compliance. The project further aims to prepare for commercialization through high quality and compliance assurance, efficient project and company management, and strategic market activities. Basemark’s goal is to establish a cutting-edge AR technology platform, achieve market readiness, and effectively scale up its AR solutions, fostering innovation, economic growth, and improved user experiences across various industries.
We have had clear objectives and we aim at enhancing the AR technology ecosystem, ensuring quality and compliance, managing project and company operations, and expanding market activities.

We have progressed in the project according to the schedule and the roadmap. Since the project start, our software development efforts have been focused on the Rocksolid AR Studio and AR SDK while business development has focused on expanding our partner ecosystem.
The scope of Rocksolid AR SDK was expanded and it was integrated to Rocksolid AR Studio. This resulted in a much easier development tool for our customers to use. Rocksolid AR Studio latest release 25.2 added many new features, including sensor signal visualization and debugging, greatly expanding the target audience of the product.
As a sign of external validation, Rocksolid AR Studio was shortlisted for Auggie Awards 2025 in the categories of the Best Creator & Authoring Tool and the Best Developer Tool.

In the area of testing and validation, we have also taken major steps forward. We have formed a dedicated Testing and Validation team and hired seasoned professionals to it.
In quality and compliance assurance, the progress has also been strong. We now have a dedicated compliance officer who oversees all certifications and processes. We are ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified company and our premises have Tisax 3 High Security certificates.
We have been developing our processes and according to evaluation, we are at level ASPICE 1. During the spring 2025, we are on our way reach ASPICE 2.
We have made three provisional patent filings relating to AR algorithms and believe these are crucial for any AR application.
In the fall 2024, we were able to conduct a road show in Europe with our demo car. We visited several key OEMs, including Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi and BMW. The audience in each of these consisted of top technology experts and key business decision makers. In some cases, more than 40 key people from OEMs saw and experienced Basemark’s AR technology in a real life setting.
We have now also firmly established contacts with the world’s largest AR HUD manufacturers, including Panasonic Automotive (JPN), Nippon-Seiki (JPN), Kyocera (JPN), AUO (TWN), Compal (TWN), Dasay SV (CHN) and Chief Tech (CHN).
We have formed a sales and technical support partnership in Japan. They are able to support all our Japanese OEM customers going forward.
