Project description
Taking steps to bridge knowledge and EU policy
Under Belgium’s presidency, a conference seeks to enhance the role of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities (SSAH) in policymaking. The EU-funded STEP project brings together experts, knowledge brokers, and policymakers to foster evidence-informed decisions. Through interactive sessions organised by NIDO, Belgium’s social innovation lab, and LUMEN’s government coaches, discussions will delve into evidence production, professional roles, and innovative practices. This initiative aims to streamline the integration of SSAH disciplines into policy development, ensuring a well-rounded approach to societal challenges. The focus on professionalisation and innovation highlights the commitment to a cohesive, informed policy framework that benefits all stakeholders.
Objective
This conference under Belgium Presidency aims at engaging in a dialog with experts in the field of SSAH, knowledge brokers and policymakers with a view to improve the contribution of the SSAH disciplines in evidence-informed policymaking. By way of interactive discussions organised by NIDO (the social innovation lab of the federal government) and using the coaches of LUMEN (the network of coaches of the federal government), the discussions will focus on three main topics: production (of evidence, of evidence-informed policies, of research calls, of brokerage organisations - within government or in academia), professionalisation (where we discuss the roles, the responsibilities, the skilling and rewarding and communication between the actors in the EIPM system) and innovations.
