Enhancing the interoperability of cyber-physical systems within their digital supply chains

Objective

Cyber-physical systems (CPS) combine physical and cyber components, enabling dynamic interactions essential for process operation. CPS enhances adaptability of the supply chains capturing, analyzing, and feeding data back into the system. Supply chain adaptability aligns with the efforts defined as a strategic plan according to the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan (2021- 2024) by the European Commission, underscoring the importance of leveraging CPS to meet evolving challenges and opportunities within supply chain management. Interoperability of CPS in their digital supply chain is critical for optimizing operations and ensuring seamless data exchange, enabling efficient coordination and resource utilization throughout the supply chain network. Due to CPS characteristics where heterogeneous components are integrated, achieving seamless interoperability poses significant challenges, including data silos, incompatible protocols, and disparate communication standards. Enriching the modeling of CPS along with the benefits of emerging systems such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things) offers a promising avenue to address these challenges. By leveraging advanced modeling techniques and integrating cutting-edge technologies, we aim to develop robust solutions that enhance interoperability of CPS and streamline digital supply chain operations. Simulating interoperability scenarios that include CPS interaction within digital supply chains will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness and scalability of proposed solutions. Through rigorous validation exercises, we will assess the performance, reliability, and scalability of our approach, ensuring its practicality and suitability for real-world deployment.
