European Training Network on Integrating AI in Proteomics: From Data Acquisition to Translational Applications

Objective

ProtAIomiProtAIomics is a European Innovative Doctoral Network aimed at training the next generation of computational proteomics researchers by integrating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) methods with proteomics.
Computational proteomics stands at the forefront of cutting-edge life science research, utilizing advanced data analysis and AI to decode the complex interplay of proteins in biological systems. Proteins, typically referred to as the workhorses of biological systems, are central to understanding cellular functions, disease mechanisms, the mode of action of drugs, and drug response. The network brings together 15 beneficiaries and 9 associated partners from diverse academic and non-academic sectors, including university hospitals, SMEs, and large companies, to tackle key challenges in the computational proteomics field.
The network focuses on three main research objectives: (RO1) developing AI-assisted algorithms to maximize the extraction of high-quality information from raw mass spectrometry (MS) data; (RO2) creating advanced tools to transform this data into deeper biological knowledge through AI-driven models; and (RO3) applying this knowledge to generate actionable insights, such as precision drugs and clinical biomarkers, with a focus on advancing therapeutic applications.
Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, ProtAIomics will bridge gaps in current proteomics research by enhancing data utilization, improving understanding of protein functions, and advancing AI tools for clinical applications. The network will provide comprehensive training, equipping doctoral candidates with exceptional AI application and development skills in an intersectoral, interdisciplinary and international setting, and improving their future employability. ProtAIomics is committed to fostering responsible research and innovation (RRI), ethics, effective science communication, proficient data management, and advance towards delivering solutions to societal challenges.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
