Precision Reasoning In Multimodal Ovarian cancer

Objective

Ovarian cancer remains the deadliest gynecologic malignancy largely because critical treatment decisions are made under persistent uncertainty. Multidisciplinary tumour boards (MDTs) must choose between competing strategies—primary surgery or neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and alternative maintenance therapies—based on fragmented clinical, imaging and pathology information. Current AI systems, including emerging agentic systems, mainly retrieve guidelines or summarize records; they do not embed a disease-specific computational model of the patient and therefore cannot deliver calibrated prognosis or transparent simulation. PRIMO addresses this gap by developing the first clinical-grade AI decision-support system dedicated to MDT in ovarian cancer. Building directly on the ERC-funded MR-O-MICS project, PRIMO leverages ONCO-IMAGE technologies enabling automated tumour segmentation, quantitative tumour burden estimation and validated morpho-radiomic survival modelling from routine CT and MRI. In collaboration with Synagen, co-founded by ERC laureate Prof. Jakob Kather, PRIMO will integrate imaging, clinical and molecular data into a unified computational patient model capable of generating survival predictions and treatment-aware simulations. The Proof of Concept will deploy and validate PRIMO in real MDT workflows under shadow conditions, demonstrating its ability to provide actionable, quantitative decision support. By transforming fragmented multimodal data into a coherent, predictive and clinically usable model, PRIMO has the potential to fundamentally shift MDT decision-making from qualitative consensus toward quantitative, reproducible and patient-specific treatment selection, with broad applicability across oncology.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
