Objective
To experiment with and evaluate the PRINCE1 project management methodology and Function Point metrication so as to improve overall software engineering productivity, quality and time-to-market, within the framework of a well-defined and established systems development life cycle.
Particular attention will be paid to project predictability, vis-a-vis schedules and budgets. To this end, Function Point Analysis (FPA-Mark2) and project estimation techniques will be introduced into the development cycle.
The PRINCE methodology will be supported by project planning and control software and estimation tools (to be selected), which will facilitate phase, task and activity level project planning and tracking. These tools will support detailed activity-based time recording by software engineers, as well as reporting and analysis of development effort and expenditure.
