European digital upper atmosphere server

Objectif

The goal of DIAS is to develop a pan-European digital data collection on the state of the upper atmosphere. The data collection is based on five existing historical data collections and on the real-time information provided by a total of five operating European digital ionospheric stations (digisondes). Through the development of new added-value products, the DIAS project team will implement all actions required for efficient promotion of this collection to the world market.

Currently, the existing digital European stations operate independently, thus failing to address the increasing demand for a unified collection of historical and real time upper atmosphere data, especially nowcast and forecast services all over Europe.

DIAS will overcome this problem by operating a server similar to those that exist already for the US. Based on the elaboration of a competitive management structure and a detailed business plan, the DIAS project team will also ensure the viability of the project beyond the funded phase under the eContent programme.
