Single-spin electron resonance

Objective

The goal of this project is the manipulation of spin properties of quantum dots by microwave signals. We will use a high-Q microwave cavity, developed in ETHZ, in order to maximize the magnetic field strength at the location of the quantum dot and keeping the total power of the microwave below the cooling power of the dilution refrigerator. The focus will first be on electron spin resonance, then we will study the possibility to manipulate spin states by GHz pulses in order to prepare well-defined spin states.

We will develop the crucial components and set up the microwave experiment. Then, the goal is to detect single-spin resonance following recent theoretical proposals. This project will allow growth in scientific prospective both: of the researcher and of the host institution, which in its turn should enhance EU scientific excellence.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
