Project description

Holograms as a new tool for surgeons

The future of medical surgery will advance in ways that were previously considered impossible. Building on imaging technology, the next step is AR-based systems that can provide surgeons with insights, visualisation and precise guidance. With funding from the European Innovation Council, Augmedit will develop and bring to market an AR application for surgeons. It will provide the possibility of viewing holographic images in 360 degrees. Currently, AR applications are not available in (neuro)surgical settings due to lacking accuracy and automatisation of workflows. Specifically, the intuitive AR application automatically generates holograms from medical imaging and projects them with a surgical plan on the patient. According to Augmedit, one hologram is worth more than 1 000 scans.

Objective

Augmedit develops and brings to market Augmented Reality SaaS applications for surgeons. AR gives the possibility of viewing holographic images in 360◦. It is our mission to transform the complete 2D clinical practice into an intuitive 3D world as the first company in the world. Until now, AR applications are unavailable in (neuro)surgical setting due to lacking accuracy and automatization of workflows. Augmedit’s Lumi Elite solves this problem. We make surgery safer by guiding the medical specialist with an intuitive AR application that automatically generates holograms from medical imaging and projects them with a surgical plan on the patient. This holographic experience improves the insight of surgeons and drives massive cost savings for medical institutions. Crucially, Lumi Elite will improve the preoperative and operative care of the patients: 1 hologram is worth more than a 1000 scans.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
