Project description
Building innovative all-optic chip architecture
The exponential growth of data and the need for efficient data management and generation have resulted in the proliferation of crucial data centres and the requirement for stable and fast networks. However, this expansion of data centres is accompanied by dangerously increasing energy consumption and a growing demand for more energy capacity. The EU-funded NEWPhotonics project aims to address this challenge by developing innovative all-optic chip architecture that significantly reduces energy consumption compared to current alternatives used in data centres. Their solution offers improved efficiency, adaptability, speed, and cost-effectiveness through novel innovations and better management solutions.
Objective
NEWPhotonics is a fabless chip startup that provides an end-to-end optical connectivity for the current and next generation of hyperscale data center networks. Est. in 2020, NEWPhotonics solves an acute problem in hyperscale data centers – the growing energy consumption and capacity. Our solution is a highly efficient, all-optic chip architecture that improves the power-hungry and costly DSP chips in optical transceivers and core-switches
NEWPhotonics has filed 5 patents: The all optical processing architecture achieves superior speed, efficiency, robustness and cost advantages. A breakthrough non-invasive device for calibration and monitoring of integrated photonics circuits that is the enabler of implementation of complex photonic systems and results in higher reliability and durability. Our proprietary all-optical buffer and management for data package congestion mitigation in photonic switch networks ensures high throughput, scalability and reliability for hyperscale data centers.
