Life Saving Technology for Thoracic Trauma Treatment and Post Operative Drainage

Project description

Drainage port revolutionises thoracic trauma treatment

Thoracic trauma, the leading cause of accidental death worldwide, carries a daunting 60 % mortality rate among polytraumatic patients. The key to survival lies in timely treatment, with 80 % of patients potentially saved if treated within 1 hour. Unfortunately, current solutions have remained static for decades. In this context, the EIC-funded C-LANT Drainage Port project promises to change the landscape. This self-fixating, a-traumatic and multifunctional device offers a safe, fast and cost-effective solution for treating various chest traumas and post-operative drainage. Cutting procedure time 20-fold, it could save up to EUR 2.6 billion associated with tube replacements. The project aims to transform healthcare systems and patient outcomes globally.

Objective

Thoracic trauma is the 1st cause of accidental death globally, with a mortality rate of 60% in polytraumatic patients. The time of treatment is crucial. 80% of patients can be potentially saved if they are treated in 1h. However, current solutions to treat it are limited and static for the last 30-50 years. C-LANT is a unique self-fixating, a-traumatic and multifunctional device tackling this unmet need by offering a safe, fast, easy to use, multifunctional and cost-effective tool for treating any type of chest trauma or postoperative drainage following major thoracic and abdominal procedures. It reduces the procedure time by 20x and saves up to €2.6Bn associated with additional tube replacement (EU).
With the EIC support Vigor aims to accelerate the clinical validation and scaling-up of C-LANT, providing a global impact to healthcare systems, clinicians, and patients. C-LANT will be part of the growing Emergency Medical Devices and the Surgical Drains markets (total valued >40B -2030)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
