New era of guided lens implantation in cataract surgery

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Next level cataract surgery (New era of guided lens implantation in cataract surgery)

Reporting period: 2023-05-01 to 2024-04-30

AkknaTek has developed an innovative optical technology, which for the first time is able to provide diagnosis of the position of the intraocular lens implants in the eye, and enable a possibility to intuitively re-align the implant, instead of extensive refractive surgery.
Current implantation accuracy of intraocular lenses is not sufficient for today’s visual demands, and there is no solution on the market that can monitor and guide the required lens centration and tilt in the eye. Therefore, the current state of the art of the market is characterized by the fact that mainly conventional monocular lenses are implanted.
Whereas the modern lenses, which offer better vision closer to the natural vision, providing ability to accommodate, better contrast, and no corneal astigmatism, are still challenging to implant, due to the demand of accurate placement.
With this project we are executing a multicenter clinical study on the relevance of the intraocular lens positioning on the visual outcome in frame of a cataract treatment, for demonstrating the clinical performance, and focus on the market validation on a long term clinical data.
With the help of our technology the eye surgeons will get a full understanding and control of the lens position, higher patient satisfaction, avoiding refractive surprises and therefore, no need for re-surgery.
