M80 - an hybrid-electric regional commercial aviation Aircraft

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - Maeve 01 (M80 - an hybrid-electric regional commercial aviation Aircraft)

Período documentado: 2024-01-01 hasta 2024-12-31

Sustainable aviation is important for the EU. Denmark and Sweden have set a target to achieve 100% fossil-free domestic flights by 2030. Given that developing a new aircraft typically takes 8-10 years, it is imperative to commence work immediately if the EU intends to meet its environmental and sustainability objectives, including zero-emission aviation. Funded by the European Investment Council, the Maeve M80 project is dedicated to the creation and commercialization of the world’s first hybrid-electric aircraft for the commercial aviation market, capable of decarbonizing existing flight routes in the regional aviation segment. It’s Maeve’s mission to reduce more than 50 MT of CO2 from commercial routes before 2040. M80 can accommodate 80 passengers and cover distances of up to 1.482 km, and is aimed for entry-into-service in 2031.
Our main goal in this project is to progress the R&D for the specific technologies needed for developing a hybrid electric aircraft. This relates to the battery system, scaled powertrain, and wings.
When successful within this project, we have taken an important step towards being the first in the world to certify a clean-sheet commercial aviation hybrid-electric aircraft capable of reducing the CO2 impact of regional aviation significantly
