Project description
Efficient and practical dynamic ultra-thin LED foil displays
The increasing drive for digitalisation has sparked a demand for enhanced digital displays that can exhibit dynamic content and be deployed in various locations and vehicles, serving diverse purposes. Unfortunately, most cutting-edge options are restricted to single-colour lighting, offer limited control over LED pixels, or face constraints related to their shape, size, weight and cost, among other factors. The EU-funded LED-foil-display project, led by LightnTec, aims to address this need by developing ultra-thin films that are flat, flexible, scalable in size, suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings, and exceptionally lightweight. The final product will meet these requirements while also delivering efficiency and practicality.
Objective
There is a huge demand for dynamic, digital displays and lighting solutions of surfaces, indoor and outdoor, in automotive, transportation, aviation and health. But state-of-the-art solutions are either limited to single color lighting with no individual control of LED pixels, or they are expensive, heavy, limited in size, shape, curvature and difficult to install.
LightnTec is a leading innovator in Europe for light and its control on ultra-thin films and will exploit this business opportunity. ledTec.flex is ultra-thin, malleable, flat, large in scale, applicable indoors and outdoors, and digital – any size, any shape, any place, ultra-thin, ultra-lightweight. The technology offers a huge application potential as video foil in digital-out-of-home (DOOH), for medical illumination in healthcare, and for dynamic ambient lighting in trains, planes, vehicles and buildings. The EIC blended finance, will enable LightnTec to internationally deploy ledTec.flex and become the next EIC success.
