Project description
Sustainable pest management with pheromones
The integration of pheromones into pest management methods is made possible by technological innovations in agriculture. In this context, the EU-funded Micro Dispensers project will develop a method that relies on the application of specific pheromones (marketed under the brand name pherolit®) onto high-quality mineral clinoptilolite-zeolite, a natural mineral extracted and processed by Lithos company from its source, to optimise the unique properties of binding and releasing pheromones. This technology is safe for users, affordable and easy to use, as it can be sprayed with any conventional spraying device. It also has a slow-release mechanism that allows for a long-term effect. Additionally, it targets specific pest species without affecting other organisms, prevents pests from developing resistances, and uses natural ingredients.
Objective
Over many years, Lithos developed and patented its Micro Dispenser Technology: A method, where specific pheromones (brand name pherolit) are applied on a natural mineral as carrier. Lithos extracts and processes the high-quality mineral clinoptilolite-zeolite from its own source to optimize the unique properties in binding and releasing pheromones. For the application on the field, the pheromone of a particular pest is applied on fine-milled, treated zeolite and dispersed in water. The sprayable formulation can be used with any conventional spraying device. Using fully natural ingredients, the innovative technology provides efficient and safe plant protection.
This results in a unique set of advantages for customers:
- sprayable, easy to use & affordable
- safe for users
- slow release -> long term effect
- target specific, does not affect other organisms
- derived from nature, no harmful residues
- pests cannot develop resistancies
- suitable for conventional & organic farming
