Satisfacer el futuro apetito de ingredientes alimentarios y proteínas sostenibles
El cambio climático y la expansión urbana plantean importantes retos para el futuro de la agricultura. A fin de satisfacer la creciente demanda, se necesitan nuevas soluciones y recursos adicionales. Por ejemplo, la demanda de proteínas aumentará un 78 % en 2050, y alcanzará los 360 millones de toneladas anuales si la población mundial sigue consumiendo al ritmo actual. En este contexto, el equipo del proyecto Biosolar Leaf, financiado con fondos europeos, introducirá en el mercado ingredientes alimentarios y proteínas sostenibles. Para acelerar la transición de la Unión Europea hacia un sistema alimentario sostenible, la tecnología llegará a la fase de expansión con el apoyo del Consejo Europeo de Innovación.
Objetivo
By 2050, it is estimated that the protein demand will grow by 78% and reach 360 million tonnes yearly if the entire population consume at current levels. Agriculture is nearly maximally exploited and issues such as climate change and urban expansion pose important challenges to the future of agriculture. Therefore, new solutions and additional resources are required to meet the increasing demands. Arborea aims to develop and put on the market a revolutionary bioreactor for (micro)algae growth, which will solve the crucial issues for large-scale and commercially viable microalgae production as food source and allow Arborea to produce and bring to market sustainable food ingredients and protein commodity at disruptive price. With EIC’s support, the technology will evolve from the end of the R&D phase to the scale-up phase, accelerating the transition to a sustainable food system.
