A doctoral training network in integrative studies of plant stress biology

Objetivo

The quality of human resources in science and technology ultimately underpins innovations and economic growth. Among the key areas with great socio-economic impacts, the resolution of important environmental issues, improvement of food quality and safety, and development of sustainable agricultural production heavily rely on the input from advanced research.

In particular, research in stress biology of plants is central to achieving progress in these key areas. As basic instrument, interdisciplinary training of early-stage researchers directed towards specialization in these key areas is essential and requires the set-up of a Europe-wide integrated network of graduate schools, which are coordinated by institutions of scientific excellence with professional education practice.

This need is addressed by proposing "A Doctoral Training Network in Integrative Studies of Plant Stress Biology (ADONIS), which offers a multidisciplinary Ph. D. program in biology, botany, physiology, genetics, functional genomics, advanced proteomics, molecular breeding, mass spectrometry, biotechnology and bioinformatics. The major scientific program is to unlock the biological processes that allow plants to tolerate unfavourable environmental conditions.

This integrated program is based on a close collaboration between universities and research centres of excellence from eight European countries. ADONIS offers outstanding resources and unique opportunities for young researchers to develop their research carriers by undergoing intensive training, developing strong complementary skills in scientific communication and project planning, and gaining insight into practical developments and global job opportunities.

ADONIS secures a wide range of scientific qualifications monitored by international benchmarks and aims to promote development of long-term European collaborations in a strategically important key research area.
