Domain Driven Design and Mashup oriented development based on Open Source Java Metaframework for Pragmatic, Reliable and Secure Web Development

Descripción del proyecto

Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering
Romulus is an industrial Open Source Project which will significantly improve the productivity, security and reliability of Java Web Development.

Web Software Development is one of the most active areas in software development in Europe, and Java Enterprise Edition is the preferred option for one million Europeans, with more than 38.6% of Europeans developers according to Evans Data. Since web development is not still a mature area, the proliferation of frameworks and components, has both increased the required skills of web engineers, and affected the productivity.

ROMULUS project has the goal of contributing to the promotion of a new open paradigm in Europe (fighting against the decentralisation of coding activities to third countries) for development web systems with Java technology. The project will research on domain driven design for Web Application Development on Java and will provide an open source Java Metaframework for developing web applications. Furthermore, the Metaframework will provide unprecedented ability to mashing remote pieces of web applications not only at user interface level (Web 2.0 style mashup) but at data level(use of the W3C Semantic Web languages as backend data integration layer, and portal and enterprise level and portal components).

In order to have a serious impact, the project does not start from scratch, it is based on two successful open source projects, Roma and Liferay, which will be extended according to this proposal needs and following an open source project development methodology, in order to disseminate and exploit the results of the project.

The consortium is based on best experiences in Java technologies. Together with Informatica Gesfor, as project coordinator, a bunch of reputed companies conform an innovative consortium that includes both Liferay and Asset Data as leaders and developers of Liferay and ROMA frameworks. In addition,IMOLA whose experience in Java Metaframeworks - Mokbyte- provides a valuable complement and three Research Institutions, such as DERI from Irland, UPM form Spain, and ICI from Romania complete a well balanced consortium.
