Signalling network regulating tooth development

Final Report Summary - TOOTH (Signalling network regulating tooth development)

Orofacial development and regeneration are both creating tissues being controlled by many similar signaling cascades. The development and regeneration research delivered by the support of Dr Felszeghy's Marie Curie European Reintegration Grant (MC ERG) represents a nice example of cross border cooperation of internationally well recognised research groups in Hungary and abroad. His work during these three years focused on the orofacial development, with emphasis on teeth and adjacent structures. The results have been published in per reviewed scientific papers and he has been invited to several international meeting as a speaker and as a participant. His work definitely brought new results to be used in the rapidly developing area of basic dental research. Dr Felszeghy and coworkers results on early tooth development in animal models certainly will help in understanding of origin of tooth pattern and shape, the knowledge important for engineering of tooth crown. Dr Felszeghy reintegration with the help of MC ERG was very successful, since Dr Felszeghy as a scientist as well as a teacher became a well recognised member of the Faculty of Dentistry, Medical and Health Science Centre, University of Debrecen and he is currently the secretary of Dental PhD Program at the Dental Faculty.
