The NBIPI Career Enhancement Mobility Programme

Final Report Summary - CEMP (The NBIPI Career Enhancement Mobility Programme)

The NBIPI Career Enhancement and Mobility Programme (CEMP) is a postdoctoral fellowship programme co-funded by Marie Curie Actions, the Irish Higher Education Authority (HEA) Programme for Third Level Institutions (PRTLI) Cycle 4 and the Italian National Research Council. The aim of CEMP is to support experienced fellows at various stages of their career in attaining and strengthening their career prospects to become independent investigators or senior scientists in education or industry. Within the remit of the NBIPI, the CEMP funds and supports research fellows undertaking interdisciplinary research training in programmes in biophotonics and imaging. Marketing and publicising of CEMP commenced in January 2009 with the official launch being held at the NBIP Ireland inaugural conference on 26th March 2009. A manager was appointed in February 2009 to oversee the implementation of CEMP. Two calls were published, the first in January 2009 and the second in March 2009. Twenty eight applications were submitted and sixteen fellowships were awarded, four of which were outgoing and eleven of which were incoming. Fellowships commenced between May 2009 and January 2010, and range in duration from 12 - 24 months. Profiles on individual fellows are available at see appendix 1

In addition to providing training-through-supervision by means of individual personalised projects, the CEMP addresses the requirement for leadership and management skills training. Fellows funded under the CEMP will participate in a Leadership and Management Development Programme aimed at alerting researchers to the importance of the leadership and managerial aspects of their career and giving them practical information that will help them to succeed as planners and managers of research programs.
