Northern STARs: Science – Talents – Attraction – Research

Objectif

Science and technology affect our life everyday in all sorts of different ways. Science and the public are not yet divorced, but there are a number of signs that indicate an increased alienation between the two. Often a negative impression is based on a misunderstanding of science. The objective of the Researchers Night is to make science a more public endeavour so as to create a pro-innovation environment, and to communicate the growing importance of knowledge for society. To ensure long-term support from society and to secure a steady supply of prospective science students, science and research institutions, like universities, must promote both, the intellecutal understanding of and the social support of science. Bringing the researchers of the University of Oldenburg closer to the public, presenting fascinating research and inspire the youth for science in a festive atmosphare are the main aims of the night related to our motto “Northern STARs”- Science, Talents, Attractions and Research. In particular we want: • to show that with science, we can lead to technological advances • visitors to learn more about science • to show that anyone can become a scientist • that science can be fun.
