UPM - Marie Curie International Mobility Programme

Final Report Summary - UNITE (UPM - Marie Curie International Mobility Programme)

The Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) is aware that its human resources are its major strength and that future achievement depends upon the support it can provide them. The recruitment of excellent professionals and establishment of transparent and well-designed research career pathways to stimulate researchers comprise crucial elements of its human resource policy for sustainable growth.

To facilitate these, the project COFUND UNITE is contributing to recruit researchers and to promote mobility. COFUND UNITE creates a critical mass of experienced and senior researchers in the UPM, sharing of experiences, and developing common approaches as it is well synchronised with other mobility programmes of the University. The mobility schemes contemplated in UNITE are at the base of a successful European research career aiming to attract European and non-European researchers into UPM’s Research Groups, Research Centres or Institutes.

In order to fulfil the project objectives to recruit experienced and senior researchers three calls for selection of candidates were launched as planned in the contract. So, at UPM there were established the required procedures for Regulatory Bases of the Calls for Senior Researchers (SR) and for Experienced Researchers (ER). The conditions for the selection, evaluation and recruitment of the candidates were specified in UNITE calls which included the following information: the dates of the application and documents needed, the curriculum vitae and mobility requirements for the candidates, the required profiles of researchers, gross remuneration and duration of the contracts, the evaluation procedure and criteria, the duration of the contracts and the rights of the contracted fellows. Moreover the calls included: Application Forms, FAQs, Guide and contact address accessible to applicants. Dissemination of the calls was extensive through Nature, Science and EURAXESS, as well as among the research community of the UPM, in congresses, workshops, and conferences.

The results obtained from the calls have been the following:
-Four Senior Researchers have been recruited with the combination of the UPM Programme “Isaac Peral” and the COFUND UNITE Programme: managed in collaboration with industries or foundations interested in technological research and innovation to create strong research hubs in the fields of Biotechnology and nanotechnology.
-Four positions for Experienced Researchers have been reached under the type of Outgoing mobility. Due to the fact that there were not reached the proposed thirteen positions of Incoming/Re-Integration, the UPM Selection Committee decided to moved one position of an Experienced Researcher from the Incoming/Re-Integration mobility type to the Outgoing mobility type. The host organisations for the outgoing phase are: California Institute of Technology (USA), Universidad de Sao Paolo (Brazil), University of Wageningen (The Netherlands) and University of Zurich (Switzerland). The returns phase it was done in Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spain).
-Twelve positions for Experienced Researchers have been reached under the type of Incoming and Reintegration mobility.
