Barcelona Conference on European Research Infrastructures

Objectif

The sixth European Conference on Research Infrastructures (ECRI2010) will take place in Barcelona on March 23-24, 2010, under the Spanish European Council Presidency. In line with the previous successful events in Strasbourg (2000), Trieste (2003), Nottingham (2005), Hamburg (2007) and Versailles (2008), the overall objectives of the conference will be: 1) to explore means of structuring and strengthening the European Research Area 2) to increase the efficiency of creating new facilities, 3) to intensify the exchange of views between decision-makers at international level. Following the intensive and important discussion of research infrastructures (RI) at the Fifth European Conference on Research Infrastructures in Versailles, Barcelona Conference will be focussed on: - the European Strategy for RIs - the prioritization of new RIs - the political decision making for the selection and location of new RIs relatively to existing ones - the e-infrastructure for Science - the Management and financial issues for the RIs within ERA - the Governance and future of RIs in ERA The day before the opening, on Monday 22nd of March, the opening of the ALBA Synchrotron will be organized, with the assistance of the Spanish Royal family and the Spanish President. The day after the conference, on Tuesday 25th of March, a visiting program to Research Infrastructures of interest in the area for Barcelona will be offered to the conference participants, including ALBA synchrotron and MareNostrum at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. During the conference, an international press tour will be organized, including assistance to the opening sessions, presentation from different Spanish RIs, and visits to different RIs in the area of Barcelona.
