Non linear imaging at microscopic level for biological applications

Objective

The target of this Transfer of Knowledge proposal is the elucidation of molecular mechanisms and biological activities at the sub-cellular level by using non-linear microscopy (Two Photon Excitation Fluorescence, Second Harmonic Generation) with femtosecond laser pulses for the excitation. The investigation of in vivo sub-cellular activities, by means of an imaging technique, can provide valuable and unique information related to fundamental biological problems, leading to the development of innovative methodologies for the early diagnosis and treatment of several diseases.

The interdisciplinary proposed project is related to the scientific areas of physics, biology and medicine. The contribution from several experienced external researchers, from the fields of non-linear laser physics, biophysics, cell biology and photodynamic therapy is essential for the successful realization of the proposed project. The high quality infrastructure and manpower of IESL-FORTH (host organization) ensures the excellence in absorbing the transferred knowledge that will significantly increase the research quality, the overall capabilities and the competitiveness of the host organization worldwide.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
