Water Efficiency in European Urban Areas

Objectif

WE@EU is a coordination action born from the initiative of a wide range of actors from five different European regions that have a true awareness on problems related to availability of water in sufficient quantities and adequate quality in their regions. Taking into account that over 80% of the population is expected to be living in urban areas in EU countries by 2050, pressures on the availability of water, also under the effects of the climate change phenomenon, is becoming a major challenge at European and global level. WE@EU has been conceived to coordinate european innovation in the water efficiency market of products and services through high-level
cooperation between five European regions represented by research-driven clusters. The five participating regions are envisaged to identify common solutions towards the development of effective R&D&I policies trough knowledge transfer, mutual learning and capacity building,in a coordinate collaboration with R&D&I performers, the business sector, regional authorities/policy makers and civil society. WE@EU will promote the delivery of innovative solutions, skills and policy
instruments to support to boost competitiveness of the participating regions towards a more
resource-efficient economy.
Ultimately, WE@EU is expected to set up the base for a higher specialization degree in water-efficiency, contributing to the development of their Regional Innovation Strategies.
