Objective
The project will enable reintegration into the European Research Area of a Polish-born scientist Dr Marek Pyda who has worked in the USA for the last 13 years. Dr Pyda is a widely recognised researcher in the field of physical chemistry of polymers. He was an important contributor and currently is the Director of a unique laboratory of advanced thermal analysis of polymers (ATHAS) located at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (USA).
The project involves:
(i) Dr Pyda's return to his native Poland to undertake a scientific position in academia
(ii) transfer of the ATHAS laboratory from the USA to Rzeszow, Poland (all the equipment at Dr Pyda's disposal, together with a large and unique data base of thermal properties of polymers and related materials),
(iii) advanced and complex research on thermal properties of polymers and polymer-related materials, including molecular and full physical and chemical interpretation of material properties.
Dr Pyda will conduct his research at the Faculty of Chemistry, Rzeszow University of Technology (RzUniTech). The Faculty has a strong polymer research group with well-established scientific position, who co-operate with regional, national and international scientific and industrial centres. Dr Pyda's knowledge and experience will significantly add to the scientific quality of the group and the research it will conduct.
The project will enable:
(i) transfer of scientific knowledge and know-how from the USA to Europe,
(ii) establishing a laboratory of a scientific potential unique in Europe,
(iii) development of new lines of research at RzUniTech.
The nature of the research proposed in this project will make it of use for basic and applied science, as well as for the industry. The continuity of the research will be assured by the University also after the completion of the proposed project, as Dr Pyda will be employed at the Faculty of Chemistry as a nominated professor, that is for an indefinite period of time.
