Transfer of knowledge in urban soundscape auralisation

Objective

Environmental noise is often the main cause of environmental distress for EU citizens. With the common use of 3D visualization tools in urban design, there is a recognized need for 3D acoustic animation, taking various urban sound sources into account, as well as their spatial and temporal conditions. It is in this area that new competence is sought for knowledge transfer.
The research context is firmly in the disciplines of architecture and planning and the necessary computational skills for fast and efficient computer acoustic simulation typically reside in the discipline of Acoustics-Related Computer Science, thus there is an interdisciplinary dimension to the proposed knowledge transfer activities.
The knowledge transfer objectives will be implemented through recruitment of two independent external researchers, 1 junior researcher (4-10 years research experience) with a background in acoustics-related computer science for 24 months in acoustic modelling, and 1 senior researcher (with at least 10 years research experience) for 12 months to transfer knowledge in the area of 3D animations.
In addition to research activities, an important aim is to incorporate the knowledge of auralization from the TOK Fellows to the teaching activities in the host institution. Moreover, the TOK Fellows (especially the junior fellow) will receive training in various aspects of environmental acoustics.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
