Objective Russia faces a strong demand for modernisation and greening of their industrial sectors. Life Cycle Analysis(LCA) is a well-tested methodology to assess the environmental impact from production processes and from these of the products. In Russia there is a need for both theoretical and practical training of the target groups(researchers, governmental people and industrial companies) to increase the building capacity for technologytransfer. One of the core activities in this project is therefore such a training programme on LCA, cleaner production and green product development in the St. Petersburg region. The methodology will be implemented in at least ten manufacturing companies and will build up a local capacity for LCA and green product development. The aim is to demonstrate, in full scale, solutions minimising the environmental emissions from the production and from the use of the product in a sustainable way. This will be achieved by demonstrating the methodology in three pilot cases for different companies. Results of the project will also be presented for a larger number of stakeholders and spread to other regions.Thiswill give a base for improvements in the Russian industrial production in the St. Petersburg region towards sustainable development.
