Towards a European PhD in Advanced Drug Delivery

Objective

The aim of this initiative is to provide structured research training for early stage researchers in the field of the Pharmaceutical Sciences, especially in the areas of Bio pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, which are often summarised by the more modern term Drug Delivery, and to contribute to the establishment of a European PhD degree in this area. As in particular the delivery of modern biopharmaceuticals requires investigation of novel pharmaceutical dosage forms, this degree shall be referred to as Euro-PhD in Advanced Drug Delivery, and it will put special emphasis on the students capability to work on an interdisciplinary and international basis. Participation in this program will be open to all graduate students at European Universities who have already obtained a first degree or second degree (Bachelor's or Master's level) in a relevant area of Sciences, such as in Pharmacy, Biology, Chemistry, Medicine or Engineering, and who are enrolled or plan to enrol in graduate studies, usually leading to a PhD from a single University in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Drug Delivery. Central aim of this program is the establishment of a new uniform and Europe-wide recognised academic qualification, which can be acquired as a facultative, complementary qualification in addition to the existing PhD degrees of the participating universities. The Euro-PhD in Advanced Drug Delivery shall stand for a special academic excellence for future scientific leaders in the field, documenting their additional training and experience with the multidisciplinary, international and intersect oral aspects, which are typical for this field of science.
