Objective
The TIRAMISU project addresses the problem of creation, delivery and consumption of audio-visual media across a wide range of hybrid networks and platforms, where security issues, such as intellectual property rights protection, privacy, access rights and transaction tracing are of major concern. The objective of TIRAMISU is to unleash the full potential of digital media, addressing the complete consumption chain - media creation, delivery and consumption, while removing the DRM barrier.
TIRAMISU will develop a complete end-to-end framework solution, consisting of hardware and software focussing on interoperability, use of open standards, and protection of intellectual assets. This solution will serve as a proof of concept and as the foundation for wide deployment of equipment and networks that will augment the use of digital media Europe-wide and world-wide based on existing and emerging open standards. Such a solution must be comprised of contributions from various disciplines, integrating content management, security tools, streaming, networking and peer to peer solutions, as well as consuming devices and user applications.
The TIRAMISU project will use the results of a previous 1ST project - MUFFINS, which is addressing similar issues but on a lower scale. TIRAMISU will take off from the state of achievement of MUFFINS, relying on the fact that most partners of MUFFINS will continue the collaboration in TIRAMISU.
