Domestic Appliances Open Microprocessor Unified System

Objective

OMI/DOMUS addresses the topic of embedded open microprocessor control systems in the field of white goods domestic appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, dryers, fridges and cookers. The project is carrying out a market analysis and technical definition in order to define the requirements for a demonstrator for this sector.

The market analysis will define user requirements in terms of costs and product expectations. The requirements definition will address both hardware and software specifications. The hardware specifications will cover performance, power consumption, input/output, memory, temperature range, unit size and unit cost; the software specifications will cover language and operating systems requirements, development tools, software architectures, application requirements, software/hardware trade-offs, advanced control algorithms, and user-friendly dialogues.

The requirements definition for the demonstrator project will be market-driven, but will take into account the potential of domestic appliance embedded applications as a test-bed for other OMI deliverables.
