Multi-Supplier/Multi-Site Operations

Objective

The objective of the MS2O project is to develop strategies and IT applications for inter-organisational logistics and engineering in the automotive industry.

The approach taken will be to bundle all inter-organisational communications functions within one communication server to enable different company-specific CIM applications to communicate transparently with one another. A multi-layer model (mainly located within OSI layer 7) will provide an open conceptual framework for services related to the exchange of commercial as well as technical information. Building on this will be three logistics application systems covering logistics planning, synchronised just-in-time planning, and inter-organisational engineering.

Pilot installations at partner sites will be used to demonstrate interorganisational business processes for logistic chains and integrated JIT processes. The results will be applicable across the automotive industry, including sub-suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, forwarders, banks and customers, thus covering the whole business cycle. It is likely that many of the results will be applicable in other supply-based industries. They will be incorporated into products and services marketed by vendor consortium members.
