Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

1a. Publishable Summary

Method for the eco-efficient decommissioning of wind turbine blades through on-site material shredding and separation.

A test unit for the above method will be produced in our own new facilities.
In this connection we will make use of a very integrated production with the most advanced CNC-techniques.

The result of this will be that wind rotor blades now can be processed and separated in different kinds of original materials in an automated process.

A research has been carried out in the revalorization chains of the fibres.
The separated materials will be used in innovative combinations. Added to certain other forms of synthetic materials the produced fibres will reinforce these and provide properties that will expand the range of possible uses.

Until now, the decommissioning has been very difficult and ineffective, because it has been done manually with a very ineffective use of manpower. The strenuous manual work will be reduced which will be beneficial for the working environment.

With our system, it will be done highly automated and in an environmentally friendly way that will not influence the surrounding community negatively.

Further, the need for road transportation will be reduced thus minimizing costs for fuel and the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
