The overall goal of the FabricMetrics project has been the development of a computer-aided fashion (CAF) prototype, built on top of groundbreaking simulation models for textile materials. A CAF prototype enables digital testing of various designs, utilize economic and renewable materials while achieving desired mechanical properties, or explore the design space of textiles until the desired drape and flow are achieved. Textile designers may input the shape and pattern of their design together with the structural yarn description, and the CAF tool will automatically simulate the dynamic behaviour, providing designers with timely feedback. But designers may also input desired deformation examples, and the CAF tool will automatically optimise structural design parameters.
The FabricMetrics project has succeeded at making the CAF prototype true, and it has also progressed further into the creation of a spin-off company. During the course of the project, the research team incorporate DESILICO SL, which licenses the simulation technology developed by the beneficiary Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
