COMPUTER CONTROL OF A UNIVERSAL BEAM MILL.

UNLIKE MILLS FOR FLAT PRODUCTS, BEAM MILLS ARE NOT GENERALLY EQUIPPED WITH ADVANCED TECHNICAL SYSTEMS FOR CONTROLLING THE ROLLING PROCESS.
IN THEIR ABSENCE, IT IS DIFFICULT TO ADJUST THE MILL PARAMETERS (ROLLING PLAN, ROLL POSITIONING, ETC.) TO THE VARIATIONS IN ROLLING CONDITIONS (E.G. TEMPERATURE, QUALITY AND DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLLED PRODUCTS). MANUAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE MILL PARAMETERS BY ROLLING MILL OPERATIVES ON THE BASIS OF PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE OFTEN LEADS TO LOSSES OF PRODUCTIVITY AND WASTED MATERIAL (REJECTS BECAUSE OF GEOMETRICAL FAULTS), THE MORE SO WHEN ROLLING CONDITIONS DIVERGE FROM THE NORMAL CONDITIONS.

THE AIM IS TO INSTALL ON A UNIVERSAL BEAM MILL A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM TO CONTROL THE ROLLING PROCESS THAT CAN KEEP TP CLOSER DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCES AND DESIGN ROLLING PLANS THAT ARE OPTIMAL FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF PRODUCT QUALITY AND ROLLING MILL PRODUCTIVITY. BASED ON MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF ROLLING IN A UNIVERSAL STAND, THE CONTROL SYSTEM SHOULD PROVIDE AUTOMATIC REGULATION OF THE STANDS IN THE UNIVERSAL MILL ONCE THE FINAL PHASE OF THE RESEARCH IS COMPLETED.
