Objectives
o To bring researchers to the general public. To create festive meeting points for researchers and the general public across the whole country. The events will offer something for everyone, regardless of age, education level or scientific background;
o To increase awareness of research and innovation activities, reaching the largest and widest possible audience;
o To support the public recognition of researchers, improve public attitudes towards researchers and tackle existing stereotypical images by engaging researchers with a diversity of disciplines, age, gender, ethnicity …;
o To create an understanding of the impact of researchers' work on citizen's daily life by engaging researchers from local universities and enterprises and choosing topics close to people’s daily lives;
o To encourage young people to embark on scientific careers;
o To generate direct exchange and interactivity between researchers and the public;
o To highlight the international dimension of research;
o To gain experience, draw conclusions and disseminate results that will help to inform and improve future events.

The project has reached its objectives and proved to be successful.
Overview of the results:

o Conception, production and display of promotional material such as posters, programmes and flyers distributed by local organisers to libraries, upper secondary schools, politicians, university staff, students and organisations. Posters put up in streets and on notice boards;
o Announcements and advertisements published in the written press (newspapers, students' magazines) and weekly calendars;
o Press releases and other communications targeting journalists resulted in articles in newspapers and news on radio and television;
o Public advertising: billboards and digital screens by major roads, digital screens on campuses, city centres, libraries ….;
o Outdoor banners, beach flags ….;
o Engagement of 1.,000 pupils in the 2017 mass experiment, the News Evaluator;
o Engagement of more than 1.237 pupils in the drawing competition “Draw you as a researcher”;
o Publication of a series of articles portraying researchers participating in ForskarFredag: different ages, backgrounds and disciplines, different parts of the country and of both sexes;
o Publication of press releases online, national and local;
o Revamping, constant updating and maintenance of the project website namelywww.forskarfredag.se (info about the evens, links to relevant websites both EU and local organisers, articles published about different events all over Europe);
o 41.049 page views and 33.122 unique page views between 1 January – 30 November 2017;
o Setting up of a guest blog post with contributions from people involved in ForskarFredag; such as Tina Ivarsson, CEO at Kreativum Science Centre about the virtual guided tour at CERN;
o Revamping, constant updating and maintenance of Researchers’ Grand Prix website, www.forskargrandprix.se (part of the Researchers’ Night activities) with national information and local pages for each local competition, linked closely with www.forskarfredag.se;
o Links to relevant EU websites and local organisers' websites;
o 1 January – 30 November 2017: 29.147 page views and 21.969 unique page views.
o Sharing of content of the VA website, namely www.v-a.se (news, reports and other materials) with www.forskarfredag.se and www.forskargrandprix.se;
o Social media:
o Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube;
o 7.000 followers on Twitter;
o 500 followers on Instagram;
o Likes on ForskarFredag’s Facebook page 1.501 during the period;
o 566 mentions of ForskarFredag during the period through social media;
o Cooperation with other EU-funded projects through sharing content on social media;
o Electronic newsletters to target groups, both by VA, the local organisers and their partner organisations;
o Calendars: Events visible in online calendars e.g. local newspapers, tourist websites and the municipalities’ websites;
o Estimated number of people made aware of the European Researchers' night and its objectives: probably about 2 million while no reliable estimates possible.

Activities:
o Offer of activities as planned in the Annex I Part B to the Gran Agreement, namely:
o Activities in 28 Swedish cities;
o Including 15 local organisers as subcontractors;
o Offer of 456 activities;
o 150 hands-on experiments;
o 146 dialogues;
o 40 shows;
o 26 quizzes and games;
o Active involvement of 501 researchers, as well as 81 students and 139 other staff (such as teachers, communicators …), amongst the researchers:
o 1having benefitted from a SMC grant;
o 7 having benefitted from another EU support (FP 7, H2020);
o Collaborations with the Swedish Space Board and the drawing competition “Draw yourself as a researcher” resulted in new inspiring material for the organisers to use. Materials from last years’ collaborations with the Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company were also used by local organisers;
o Active involvement of 12.000 pupils in the mass experiment and of 13.000 pupils in the drawing competition;
o 14.400 visitors having actively taken part in the activities;
Overview of the results
o Collection, analysis and processing of feedbacks based on 20 in depth interviews, (visitors aged 15-19), questionnaires filled in by 13,10 % of the overall attendees, and by 31,3 % of the researchers involved in the activities;
o Main conclusions:
o Typology of researchers: 10,04 % 18-24 years old (5,84 % in 2016), 97,78 % wishing to participate again is steadily high and rising ( 95.79% in 2016), increased number of teachers answering that the visit had benefited their teaching has risen, and a higher percentage wants to visit ForskarFredag again;
o Overall positive feedback about the events (activities, contacts with researchers, venues and locations, concrete organisation, scheduling);
o More positive towards being a researcher:
o 35,92 %, unchanged positive for 33,75 % , ”unchanged negative” 7,10% (5,18% in 2016), ”yes, more negative”: 3,25% (2,26% in 2016), ”Unsure”: 19,99% (19,29% in 2016);
o Results young visitors (25 years old and younger): ”yes, more positive”: 36,24% (39,99% in 2016), ”unchanged positive”: 32,65% (31,04% in 2016), ”unchanged negative” 7,47% (5,94% in 2016), ”yes, more negative”: 3,35% (2,50% in 2016), ”unsure”: 20,29% (20,53% in 2016);
o Having learned about how research is conducted:
o Results: “Yes” 71,93%, “No” 15,10%, “Don’t know” 12,97%;
o Results young visitors (25 years old and younger): “Yes” 72,35%, “No”14,86%, “Don’t know” 12,79%;
o Evolved understanding of researchers:
o Results: ”Yes, improved”: 34,55% (36,43% in 2016), ”Unchanged, but good”: 58,62% (56,05% in 2016), ”Unchanged, but bad”: 4,15% (4,35% in 2016), ”Yes, worse”: 2,67% (3,16% in 2016),
o Exchanges with researchers:
o ”Yes, one”: 19.30% (18.32% in 2016);,Yes, 2-5”: 39.08% (28.55% in 2016), ”Yes, more than 5”: 11.41% (15.29% in 2016), ”No”: 21.41% (30.16% in 2016), ”Unsure”: 8.81% (7.67% in 2016)
