Highly Optimised Reusable Nucleus

Objective

The OMI/HORN project aims to further develop the architectures developed in the OMI/MAP (5386) and AMUS (2716/6253) projects and to develop implementations for:

- high-performance workstations and servers
- power-efficient, low-cost portable systems
- high-performance parallel computing systems
- high-performance embedded multiprocessing systems.

The objectives are to:

- develop architecture and micro-architecture implementation techniques to exploit the VLSI technologies forecast to emerge in the decade starting 1995
- develop new standards for extended precision floating-point arithmetic and incorporate new standards for parallel systems interconnections
- incorporate the results into the specification and implementation studies of new products addressing the embedded, portable computer and high-performance computing systems markets
- evaluate system costs and performance in these market segments
- demonstrate that the design goals have been met by constructing implementations for both low power and high performance.

The OMI/HIC project (7252) will provide the basic interconnect technology.

Basic demonstrations of a workstation and a portable PC using the silicon designs from the project are foreseen.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
