In vitro and in vivo experimental study of the chemical and pulmonary biological reactivity of ferrous and ferric derivatives, whether or not in the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Objective

The purpose of this research is the experimental toxicological study of the chemical and pulmonary biological reactivity of dust deposits consisting essentially of ferrous and ferric compounds, whether or not in the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Evaluation of dose-effect relationships.

Study of the dose-effect relationships specific to iron particles, by comparison with basic (CaO) and acidic (SiO2) particles, whether or not doped.

Study of the biochemical transformation of iron oxide-based particles, whether or not in the presence of PAHs:

* the metabolization of iron and PAHs;
* structural changes in the particles.

Assessment of the biological effects on lung tissue cell cultures of exposure to such particles:

* morphological and functional changes in the lung tissue cells;
* formation of free radicals;
* lipid peroxidation.

Study of the mechanisms of mutagenesis.

METHODS AND MEANS BY WHICH THE AIMS ARE TO BE ACHIEVED

. Manufacture and characterization of particles (LSMCL)
. Preliminary studies on the behaviour and stability of ferrous iron (with or without PAHs) in culture environments (with foetal calf serum)
. Toxicological studies
. Genotoxicity study (Prof. Marzin)
. In vitro study
. In vivo tests
. Molecular modelling (IMTNF)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
