Measuring the IMPACTS of the transition to the CIRCULAR economy

Deliverables

Proceedings of third steering group meeting

Three steering group meetings will be organised to support the project team with key research decisions. The proceedings of those three meetings will be the deliverable.

Proceedings of third project meeting

Four project meetings will be held to organise the work process. The proceedings of those four meetings will be the deliverable.

Data collection report on the impacts of biofuels and renewable energy (M16)

Currently the biofuel sector and the renewable energy sector are the most important sectors in the transition to a circular economy. As a lot of research was done in these sectors, the consortium will collect the necessary information for the impact assessment in these sectors with desk research.

Report on all case studies, including a final chapter summarizing the main results

The report will summarise the work conducted in all case studies and the main learning points for the project.

Summary report on the interplay of the European Semester and the circular economy

The deliverable will be a summary report of between 10 and 15 pages that will describe the strategic role of the European Semester in the EU’s economic governance frame-work, its interplay with the circular economy, as well as concrete policy recommendations on how the ES can be expanded to better guide and monitor the transition towards a circular economy.

Workshop paper for case study 3

Each case study will start with interviews with the important experts followed by desk research and the development of an impact paper describing the macroeconomic impacts of the process or processes involved, the obstacles and potentials of mainstreaming that process and the macroeconomic and societal impacts of such a mainstreaming. The first draft of that report will be shared and discussed in a short expert meeting (workshop) with industry experts to validate results and get further input.

Paper on final methodology for the case studies

Both the methodology and selection of case studies will be refined and revised in task 1. Both the refined methodology and the choice of case studies will be summarised in D4.1.

Proceedings of the Commission Internal Training Workshop

An Internal Commission Workshop will be organised in M18 which will aim to present to several DGs of the European Commission (DG Research and Innovation, DG Economic and Financial Affairs, DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, DG Environment and DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs) the key results of the project as well as the implications of the project for the European Semester.

Report on definitions of the circular economy and associated markets

The deliverable will be a report (about 10-15 pages) summarising existing circular economy definitions and providing a mapping of circular economy sectors and markets. The report will also discuss the markets and economic sectors that will be assessed in this project. This will be a guiding document for the accomplishment of the empirical work in the other WPs.

Proceedings of second project meeting

Four project meetings will be held to organise the work process. The proceedings of those four meetings will be the deliverable.

Synthesis Policy Brief

This short (around 5 pages) Synthesis Policy Brief will summarise with easy-to-understand language the main results of the project and the implications for the European Semester. It will take an integrative approach across WPs 2-5, developing a storyline of CIRCULAR IMPACT’s outcomes and results.

Proceedings of first steering group meetings

Three steering group meetings will be organised to support the project team with key research decisions. The proceedings of those three meetings will be the deliverable.

Proceedings of the Final Conference in Brussels

A Final Conference will take place during the last month of the project. This half-day Conference will present to the public the collected knowledge, policy implications and recommendations of the project as well as present the added value of the project for the European Semester.

Proceedings of first project meeting

Four project meetings will be held to organise the work process. The proceedings of those four meetings will be the deliverable.

Report on how to measure the macro-economic impacts of the circular economy

The report will provide a methodology to relate elements of the circular economy to welfare, growth, European competitiveness and employment in the short and long term and to derive possible indicators from this framework.

Workshop paper for case study 1

Each case study will start with interviews with the important experts followed by desk research and the development of an impact paper describing the macroeconomic impacts of the process or processes involved, the obstacles and potentials of mainstreaming that process and the macroeconomic and societal impacts of such a mainstreaming. The first draft of that report will be shared and discussed in a short expert meeting (workshop) with industry experts to validate results and get further input.

Proceedings of fourth project meeting

Four project meetings will be held to organise the work process. The proceedings of those four meetings will be the deliverable.

Proceedings of second steering group meeting

Three steering group meetings will be organised to support the project team with key research decisions. The proceedings of those three meetings will be the deliverable.

Dissemination and Exploitation Plan

A dissemination and exploitation plan will be prepared during the early stages of the project so as to ensure that the project results will reach a wide audience. This short (about 5-pages) overview document will present in a concise manner the various actions to be taken by the team in order to disseminate the project results to a wide range of stakeholders including policy makers at EU and member state level, civil society representatives, NGOs, the scientific community and the public.

Workshop paper for case study 4

Each case study will start with interviews with the important experts followed by desk research and the development of an impact paper describing the macroeconomic impacts of the process or processes involved, the obstacles and potentials of mainstreaming that process and the macroeconomic and societal impacts of such a mainstreaming. The first draft of that report will be shared and discussed in a short expert meeting (workshop) with industry experts to validate results and get further input.

Workshop paper for case study 2

Each case study will start with interviews with the important experts followed by desk research and the development of an impact paper describing the macroeconomic impacts of the process or processes involved, the obstacles and potentials of mainstreaming that process and the macroeconomic and societal impacts of such a mainstreaming. The first draft of that report will be shared and discussed in a short expert meeting (workshop) with industry experts to validate results and get further input.

List of relevant information sources for impact assessments on the circular economy

The collection of information and sources needed would be summarized in deliverable 3.2. The deliverable will list the information sources for the different data needs and assess which information can be accessed under which data source and what data is missing.

Macro-economic and societal impacts of a mainstreaming the circular economy

The deliverable will be an impact assessment report setting out the impact of the two scenarios on the macro economy and the society.

The future of a circular economy – Two scenarios

The report will be a document setting out the general vision and the two quantitative scenarios of the circular economy.

Task sheets for integration for the different case studies

The task sheets will define the data needs of WP4 from the different case studies.

Search tool for impact assessments on the circular economy

The search tool will provide access to the necessary information for undertaking a robust impact assessment of the circular economy. This will make the information set accessible to policy makers in the circular economy. The result will be a tool which can be used both by circular economy and green economy policy makers and analysts.

Circular Impact Website

The homepage includes all relevant information, which is necessary to “enter the debate”. This includes relevant definitions, the project overview and project goals. Also all deliverables will be uploaded and serve the public. Furthermore, the homepage advises on how to become engaged with the project.

Three Infographics

In order to address all relevant public, including stakeholders, policy makers and advisors, but also the general public, infographics will be created. These graphics will combine a flow chart structure with short definitions on key terms. In this way, knowledge management, sharing and dissemination can be combined.

Draft Data Management Plan (M6)

The WP will develop a Data Management Plan (D3.1), which will set out which information will be collected, how it can be made accessible and how it is preserved and secured.

Final Data Managment Plan

The report will be an update of the draft management plan setting out how the data collected in the project is stored and maintained.
