Description of full biomass supply chains

It refers to task 2.1. To describe illustrative logistic chains for advanced lignocellulosic biofuels including exemplary logistic concepts for different feedstocks, regions and conditions. The sub-selection will serve as input for the further testing of logistical concepts with the logistical assessment tools in tasks 2.2 and 2.3 in the case study regions. Indicators of success/failure: success if enough data are collected to continue with the further assessments in Task 2.2 and 2.3.

Report on the regulatory framework for advanced biofuel

It refers to task 31 This report will cover the normative framework surrounding the use of the advanced lignocellulosic biofuels investigated in BECOOL and the economic societal and regulatory implications of their largescale use incl aviation sector The document will be assembled with the aim to support policymakers and regulators in the development of a scientifically sound normative frameworks Mean of verification report delivered and available for the consortium

It refers to Task 22 To describe the further developed and tested logistical tools LocaGIStics Bioloco and BeWhere These will be used to support the optimal design and evaluation of logistic chains for advanced lignocellulosic biofuels in different regions Indicators of successfailure success will occur when a predefined list of requirements for improvements will be met

Norms and standards for advanced biofuels

It refers to task 3.1. The reports will review the applicable international norms and harmonized standards that could be applicable to the advanced lignocellulosic biofuels investigated in BECOOL, and identify if extension to the applicable norms and standards are to be implemented. Mean of verification: report delivered and available for the consortium

Report on the gasification of solid fuels/slurry for the route to advanced biofuels

It refers to sub-task 3.2.1. The report will describe the gasification behaviour and underpin this with a mass and energy balance for solid fuels supplied by project partners. It will identify the most promising biomass streams that can be used for the production of advanced biofuels. Mean of verification: report delivered and available for the consortium

Increase of lignocellulosic feedstock from integrated cropping systems

It refers to task 12 Illustration of technical feasibility and affordability of innovative cropping systems Comparison between innovative and conventional cropping systems Indicator of successfailure at least two innovative cropping systems agronomically implementable

Harmonized Data & Methodological approaches

It refers to task 5.2. Results from a joint workshop to define common scoping questions for the assessment work and harmonised methodological approaches and assumptions will be presented. Guidelines for harmonized data exchange will be described. Indicator of success/failure: report delivered and available for the consortium

Set up of assessment tools and literature review

It refers to task 1.1. Literature review on biomass assessments (major EU projects and studies). Assessments criteria/tools will be set up so as to identify biomass feedstocks of common interest with Brazil. Indicator of success/failure: at least 10 major EU projects and relevant studies will be identified and reviewed. Assessment criteria will be illustrated.

Report on the gasification of solid fuels/slurry for the route to advanced biofuels: update

It refers to subtask 321 The report will be updated with the results from slurry gasification including a mass and energy balance It will show the gas quality obtained from the biomass and outline the gas cleaning steps needed to produce advanced biofuels Mean of verification report delivered and available for the consortium

Report on tested logistical concepts

It refers to Task 23 To describe the outcomes of the evaluation of the different logistical concepts assessed with the different logistical assessment tools To identify the lessons learned which can be more generally applied in the design of advanced lignocellulosic biofuels using different feedstocks in Europe and Brazil Indicators of successfailure success means finding feasible logistical concepts that satisfy the requirements of the conversion technologies

Potentialities of specialist perennial lignocellulosic crops on marginal/idle lands

It refers to task 13 Illustration of technical feasibility and affordability of perennial grasses and SRF grown on marginalidle lands Description of perennial grasses and annual lignocellulosic crops complementarities Indicator of successfailure at least two perennial lignocellulosic options will be included

User manuals for the stand alone tools to be used in further chain design and evaluation

It refers to task 23 To describe the improved logistical assessment tools in clear manuals This way the tools can be used in the future to further develop logistical concepts for the advanced biofuels sector both in Europe and in Brazil Indicators of successfailure success means that partners outside the development team can use the tools independently

Definition of best harvesting logistics

It refers to task 1.4. Optimized mechanical solutions to increase the efficiency of recovering of agricultural residues and other lignocellulosic options.
