Network for Using BIM to Increase the Energy Performance

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - Net-UBIEP (Network for Using BIM to Increase the Energy Performance)

Período documentado: 2018-10-03 hasta 2020-01-02

Net-UBIEP Project has proposed the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to increase energy performance during the life cycle of the building. The use of BIM will allow simulation of building energy performance using different materials and components, both to be used in the building design and/or in building design refurbishment while during the management will help to monitor the incorrect use of facilities and will improve the maintenance to keep the energy performance of the building at the values foreseen during the design.
To reach this aim Net-UBIEP Project has reached these objectives:
1. Identification of professional profiles involved in NZEB building sector by defining specific BIM competences for each of them in order to get a repertoire of Professional competences for each phase of the building process and for any target. Four target groups, in fact, have been reached according to the role they play in building processes, namely Public Administrations, Professionals (Engineers / Architects), Technicians (Installers / Maintainers), Tenants/Owners/Building Administrator.
2. We published a three dimensional matrix for the identification of competences required to each of the above target group during the lifecycle of the building to ensure the highest energy performance. The three dimensional matrix indicates competences needed in each construction phase: strategic definition, preparation and brief, concept design, development design, technical design, handover and close out, in use, refurbishment and eventual recycling/demolish.
3. We developed BIM Qualification Models related to energy performance to tackle the problem of energy competences gap in the existing buildings sector as a whole. BIM Qualification Models are composed by a BIM Training Scheme and a BIM Qualification and/or Certification Scheme comprehensive of energy skills.
BIM Training scheme have been elaborated and validated through pilot training sessions with more than 3000 people in seven European countries.
Net-UBIEP Project has proposed an increase of energy performance related competences of 6 professional figures: BIM evaluator, BIM facility manager, BIM manager, BIM coordinator, BIM expert, BIM user.
4. We have proposed a standardised scheme for BIM Qualification to buildingSMART international by signing a MoU and the proposed qualification should be in place within 2020.
The first target, which has been involved in each country, is the public administration to understand their knowledge of BIM at national, regional and local level.
The partners have analysed the existing BIM profiles in each country and have verified that the building energy performance has never mentioned in the existing profiles.
The implementation of EU directive on the use of BIM in public tender has not been applied in each country at the same way.
the building design and construction stages are not the same in each country but the partners agreed to use, as reference, the RIBA approach, and a reference table has been built in order to identify the needed competences in each stage for each target, which is the base for the construction of the matrix foreseen in the project.
The extended use of BIM in all the building lifecycle stages, will allow the best energy performance of the building during its lifecycle as well for the refurbishment and the recycling. Some studies, for the use of BIM for the asset management, have demonstrated that the costs can decrease up to 50% as well as the environmental impact. As the new EU directive on public tenders foresee the use of BIM, we expect that by lowering the management costs of building owned by the public, funds for other services will be released and the social impact will increase.
