Periodic Reporting for period 4 - MarketPlace (Materials Modelling Marketplace for Increased Industrial Innovation)
Período documentado: 2022-01-01 hasta 2023-06-30
To address this, MarketPlace is an online digital platform connecting providers and consumers of materials modelling tools, services, and related data. The aim of the Materials Modelling Marketplace is to orchestrate the exchange of tangible and intangible assets to accelerate innovation based on materials modelling. The MarketPlace consortium utilises state of the art information technologies to build an open web-based integrated Materials Modelling and Collaboration platform. This platform acts as open Marketplace and one-stop-shop for providing all determining components that need to be interwoven for successful and accelerated deployment of materials modelling in industry and academia. This includes linking various activities and databases on models, information on simulation tools, communities, expertise exchange, course and training materials, lectures, seminars and tutorials. The developed platform includes mechanisms for the integration of interoperable advanced materials model workflows for coupling and linking of various discrete (electronic, atomistic, mesoscopic) and continuum models. This was achieved by developing open and standard post and pre-processing methods that allow complex flow of information from one model to another for both strongly and loosely coupled systems. The Marketplace platform includes access to concerted set of federated databases of materials models, materials data and provides for access to experimental characterisation and stimulate the development of interface wrappers and open simulation platforms.
The MarketPlace consortium has strengthened the competitiveness and lowered the innovation barrier for European industry for product development and process design and optimization using materials modelling.
1. The platform architecture was designed from scratch, reaching a TRL of approx. 6 in the end
2. Database and modelling services were integrated
3. The workflow ontology has been created to make clear distinctions between process flow and data flow
4. Knowledge service components were integrated to provide linking between software solutions, models, data and knowledge services
5. All modules of the platform have been completed and demonstrated to establish the full potential of MarketPlace. These are namely the workflow builder, app store, and HPC services.
6. The Web-Platform facilitates an environment for exploring existing solutions, interact with experts through translations services, training & education, and forum discussions, creating and executing simulation workflows, getting access to simulation platforms and providing an application store.
7. Aspects concerning data privacy and security as well as formulating Terms of Use were carefully addresses with legal aid to comply with relevant regulations (e.g. GDPR).
8. Successful demonstration of the platform and its robustness via the project’s use cases of WP5.
9. Conducting a User Experience Survey to collect feedback from users of the MarketPlace platform.
10. Creation of a Business Plan to ensure sustainability of the project and prepare the formation of a legal entity in the form of a non-profit association. The founder team has been identified and work towards the registration of the legal entity has reached an advanced level.
11. Coordination of all activities (scientific, financial, administrative, legal) of the consortium, with focus on finalizing the project based on an amendment with an extension of six months.
The main results (including exploitation and dissemination) can be summarised as follows :
1. The platform was created from scratch and has been made open to the public in June 2023. As a result, it is now possible for any person to register themselves into the platform and start using it. The platform is available under the URL https://materials-marketplace.eu/(se abrirá en una nueva ventana).
2. The user docs have been created to include documentation and tutorials related to the project use cases of WP5. The docs include a scientific part for explaining the motivation for the use case as well as its methodology for solving problems.
3. Several public workshops were organized to introduce and train interested externals on how to use the platform. The first workshop took place on February 24th 2022 and the second one on June 21st 2023.
4. The formation of a legal entity has been significantly progressed. The format of the entity, as a non-profit organisation, has been decided on, founding members have been defined and intensive discussions with legal teams (internal and external) took place. The legal entity is now very closed to be registered and to begin its activity.
5. Collaborations with other European projects have been successfully demonstrated. Namely, OntoCommons , Apache , SimDOME , OntoTrans , and ReaxPro . Market-Place has also been demonstrated and discussed as a part of the 4th EMMC International Workshop 2023.
1. Ontology files representing knowledge,
2. the MarketPlace platform itself,
3. and the modelling tools.
The MarketPlace platform allows the exploitation of existing software via advice on modelling, education of companies, and the stimulation of the provision of translation services especially for SMEs as well as the combination of software tools, multiscale simulations, and/or process chain simulations. The results generated includes:
1. The knowledge service by means of its powerful ontology based design as well as translation service including the networking capabilities on the basis of matchmaking algorithm.
2. The capability to register 3rd party software on the MarketPlace platform in order to overcome the problem of monolithic solutions.
3. The developed interoperability tools for semantic and syntactic interoperable infor-mation exchange and workflow management to allow seamless integration of simula-tion tools into simulation workflows: i.e. configuration and provision of simulation work-flows drawing on multiple tools.
4. The integrated simulation services like SimPhoNy remote for deploying software that be instantiated and executed remotely as well as AiidaLab for workflows.
5. The created access to database services via database gateway and corresponding front-end client to allow the exploitation of material data as well as related information.
