Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Even though e-commerce trade is steadily growing there are early signs that market saturation is being reached across the globe with very few exceptions. Poor online experience, slow loading screens and inability to visually perceive products are some of the factors that still make many consumers in Europe reluctant on preferring an online purchase over the physical experience they receive from brick and mortar retailers. Furthermore, online consumers often find it difficult to perceive product dimensions and visual representation in the real world which significantly increases the associated costs of product returns, complaints and bureaucracy to online businesses that further damage online trade.
Virtual and augmented reality product visualisation technologies are the direct answer to online trade challenges that will further stimulate growth and enhance consumer visual experience before purchase.
Today, there is a need for a 3D visualisation software solution that can support high level customisation, making digital products computationally light on all devices for seamless upload and easy manipulation on the fly. A software package which is intuitive enough for every company to use in order to showcase their products without in-depth technical expertise thus providing autonomy and flexibility to businesses to utilise such a product extensively with minimal risks.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

Hapticmedia was founded in 2013 within the Alsacian incubator SEMIA. Haptic-MEDIA is formed by a team of experts with 15 years of experience in graphic design, 3D development and business development. By matching French design with technology we have been able to develop Speedy-3D, the most powerful 3D software with ultra-realistic rendering to improve the e-commerce experience and lead e-commerce market to the new 4.0 Industry. Our innovative and technological advanced tool was awarded in 2013 with the first prize in e-commerce category at the Numeric’Alsace, whose objective is to reward original initiatives in the field of technology, and the e-commerce innovation award in Alsace IT day’s 2013 show.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

By enhancing online shopping visual perception of products, online trade will be stimulated globally which will proliferate commerce and its profits for companies intending to sell online. Furthermore, this will decrease associated costs of product returns, complaints and bureaucracy to online businesses.
