Periodic Reporting for period 5 - COHESIVE (COHErent Setup and Demonstration of Integrated Travel SerVices)
Período documentado: 2022-01-01 hasta 2022-12-31
The project aimed to guarantee a technical coordinated interface amongst the different projects under IP4, ensuring coordinated objectives and consistent content, planning stability, and technical uniformity. The project worked towards federating a community around the innovation concepts proposed within IP4 and ensured engineering consistency throughout the different technical demonstrators by validating and assuring the interoperability of components, modules, and services.
The project promoted convergence of all IP4 technical demonstrators to guarantee a technical and operational rationale, resulting in coherent, sound, and self-explanatory demonstrators. The project demonstrated that the current technical fragmentation and complexity in the ground transportation sector can be diluted or minimized with the integrated approach taken in IP4. The project disseminated and communicated the results obtained, promoting the benefits and applicability of the concepts in IP4. These results were demonstrated within different deliverables and technical demonstrators, applied to particular use cases using adequate scopes of travel corridors to each phase.
The COHESIVE project also worked towards ensuring the openness of new solutions and architecture specifications as new participants joined and embraced the concept, increasing its coverage and adoption. The project implemented a Living Lab approach across the community to increase the innovation potential and stream it through exchanges of information in the correct forums and the exploitation of data by local stakeholders and others. The project developed plausible use cases to incrementally demonstrate the integrated functionalities of the modules and components developed.
The project characterized both the current and future profile of travellers based on expected current trends and future plausible scenarios. The project assessed business models covering the developed concept(s) to understand their viability.
In conclusion, the COHESIVE project was a successful initiative that played a significant role in the IP4 "IT solutions for attractive Railway services". The project successfully integrated and demonstrated various technological innovations developed under IP4 and provided valuable insights into providing citizens with a seamless door-to-door multi-modal journey experience, maintaining rail as the backbone of the mobility ecosystem.
The COHESIVE project also played a crucial role in driving the joint definition of demonstrations and pilot executions, having monthly interaction with transportation players in Europe. In collaboration with Shift2MaaS and Ride2Rail projects, the team successfully executed pilots in several European cities and was able to plan and define 6 new pilot projects associated with IP4MaaS projects to be run in 2023.
In addition to executing pilots, the COHESIVE project team also actively participated in several Shift2Rail innovation day’s events and held 6 summits with the IP4 advisory board. The team also conducted several workshops to gather partners' feedback for the route to market reports and exploitation definition.
The project was widely disseminated through the publication of 4 newsletters and participation in various international conferences, including Innotrans2018, TRA2018, The Future of Transportation 2019, UITP GTPS 2019, ITS2020, WCRR2022, CED 2022, Innotrans2022, and TRA2022. The COHESIVE team also published several papers in international conferences such as ITS2020, WCRR2022, and TRA2022.
Finally, the project culminated in the execution of the final event in Toulouse, where all the results obtained by the project were exposed. The COHESIVE project demonstrated the feasibility of integrating and demonstrating the IT solutions for attractive railway services and laid the foundation for future developments in this field.
The COHESIVE project has been instrumental in improving and standardizing the engineering practices used across the different IP4 projects and has been coordinating the consolidation of the IP4 ecosystem architecture in the Capella modelling tool. The number of use cases and functionalities provided by the IP4 ecosystem have been increasing with each release and demonstration, with the integration of new transport modes and transport service providers.
Compared to similar solutions available in the market, the IP4 ecosystem has the advantage of exploring trans-European scenarios, making it a unique and innovative solution. However, the integration of services on the IP4 ecosystem still requires significant effort, and the COHESIVE project is working on building guidelines for the community to facilitate a faster scalability of services. The COHESIVE project aims to bring the IP4 ecosystem to TRL7 and set the path to bring the ecosystem to operational environments.
The IP4 ecosystem has already been piloted in six European sites, with test users evaluating the platform and the value of the IP4 proposal. The Travel Companion tool allows travellers to plan, book, and receive updated information on their trips, as well as provide entertainment options. New pilots are planned for 2023, including additional functionalities for travellers and tools for transport service providers.
The results of the COHESIVE project have the potential to have a significant socio-economic impact, as well as wider societal implications. The increased efficiency and convenience of transportation services made possible by the IP4 ecosystem can lead to reduced travel times, improved accessibility, and a more sustainable transportation system. The COHESIVE project is a major step towards realizing a more integrated, sustainable, and efficient transportation system for Europe and beyond.
