Deliverables
Detailed guide containing all the steps, code and rationales behind the Engineroom methodology, which can be used to reproduce and build upon the methods.
Value guides (opens in new window)Series of short documents and online publications outlining the landscape and main challenges and questions surrounding key values for the internet by 2025- a minimum of five of these will be produced.
Future scenarios guides (opens in new window)A series of short documents and online publication outlining possible future scenarios around the key-identified values for the internet by 2025.

Landscape mapping dataset and results (opens in new window)A deep dive into EU activity in the areas of academic research, open-source communities and public spending. The proposed areas of research include: - Analyse EU's strengths and weaknesses in developing NGI-related technologies; - Explore and map research activity and collaboration between academic institutions, with an emphasis on social issues; - Map activities of different stakeholders (open-source communities, public spending, VC) across Europe. The list of potential data sources include: Meetup (open source communities) STI Compass (OECD and EC project on mapping science, innovation and technology projects) SSRN (working papers and author affiliations for network analysis) Inomics (conferences and summer schools) ACM (conference proceedings, research metrics and special interest groups) This resource can be used by the EC to reach out to potentially interested partners for cascaded funding, and other modes of engagement with the NGI, as well.
Interactive data visualisations (opens in new window)Set of maps and other interactive data visualisations visualising networks, geographies, ecosystems, and other components of the technology roadmaps will be published online in an easy to interact with manner.
Ecosystem evaluation dataset and results (opens in new window)The dataset used for identifying and visualising ecosystems surrounding key-enabling technologies will be made available in full in an easy to use format, and findings published online.
Filtering method & technologies shortlist (opens in new window)A detailed guide to reproducing the initial topic filtering methodology, including evaluation guidelines, and a shortlist of technologies narrowed down through this same filtering methodology.
Public debate dataset and results (opens in new window)The dataset used for identifying topics and controversies in public debate will be made available in full in an easy to use format, and initial findings published online.
Long list of technologies (opens in new window)A long list of technologies identified through the initial topic identification phase will be shared.
Kick-off meeting, establishment governance structures (opens in new window)Meeting between consortium partners outlining the agenda and governance structures for the Engineroom project.
Dissemination and communication strategy (opens in new window)Concrete plan outlining strategies surrounding dissemination of research and other outputs, and communications with the NGI ecosystem and wider public.
Final event presenting the Engineroom methodology, as well as bringing together different thinkers to engage with the developed future visions of the internet.
Scenarios videos (opens in new window)A series of short videos aimed at a general public will be produced, outlining possible futures for the internet.
Evaluation framework (opens in new window)To develop a more holistic approach to evaluation, creating a document for policymakers that allows them to understand better which topics and technologies should be considered important, and which ones should be de-emphasised in developing future research funding and policy agendas. This will also include creation of indicators to help understand the state of play and contexts around important social issues pertaining to the internet (as will the technology deep dives regarding key technologies), and publish detailed guides for policymakers to help them understand and distill insights from our results.
Technology deep dive report (opens in new window)A series of short reports outlining the context and roadmaps, as well as key legal, social, ethical, economic and above all technical challenges surrounding the final selected key-enabling technologies for the NGI.
Data sprints (opens in new window)Hackaton-style event inviting researchers and other members of the NGI ecosystem to interact and engage with our data outputs and methodology.
Visions book and website (opens in new window)Book and platform containing provocations and essays by leading internet thinkers on their visions of the future internet.
Release of online platform (opens in new window)tbc
Horizon Scanning Workshop (opens in new window)Workshop convening experts in different aspects of the NGI landscape to engage with constructing and evaluating visions for the future internet.
Topic identification workshop (opens in new window)Expert workshop to help with selection of work programme topics.
