From nano to macro: a groundbreakIng actuation technology for robotic systems

Periodic Reporting for period 3 - MAGNIFY (From nano to macro: a groundbreakIng actuation technology for robotic systems)

Période du rapport: 2021-04-01 au 2023-11-30

The overall goal of the MAGNIFY project was to develop a new generation of artificial muscles for robotic systems. The artificial muscle should be realized by using artificial molecular machines, organized in polymer nanofibers and individually controlled by external stimuli. By learning from Nature, MAGNIFY should rely on a bottom-up methodology, in which the nano-scale movement of molecular machines should be incrementally amplified to the macro-scale in the artificial muscle. The MAGNIFY artificial muscles should be characterized by: high force-to-weight ratio; high flexibility; fast reactivity; intrinsic variable stiffness.

The goal of the project was expected to be achieved by fulfilling 4 objectives. This report summarizes the work done in the 62 months of the project (and especially in the last 32 months, i.e. since the submission of the last version of the PTR2) with respect to the project objectives, and explains the choices made to achieve the goal and to mitigate the encountered challenges. All the scientific and technical details can be found in the deliverables and in the journal/conference peer-reviewed papers, in the PhD dissertations, and in the MSc/BSc theses that were conducted within the 62 months of the project (https://magnifyproject.eu(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)).
The 4 objectives are progressing the state of the art.

The project does not include any socio-economic impact not any wider societal implications.
