Fellowship Program of the NCCR MUST (National Competence Center for Research in Molecular Ultrafast Science and Technology) and the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV

Project description

Mixing up a little magic

Ultrafast processes in nature and solvation (the process by which solute molecules are surrounded by and interact with solvent molecules) have in common that despite their importance, they are not well understood in large part, and that they can be studied using real-time measurements with ultrafast lasers. This is of tremendous importance to numerous applications in fields ranging from energy and environmental science to medicine and pharmacology. The EU-funded FP-RESOMUS project joins two national networks combining more than 70 world-class research groups in Germany and Switzerland who develop the techniques, technologies and experience enabling new windows on solvation and other ultrafast processes.

Objective

The Swiss research network NCCR MUST (National Center of Competence in Research Molecular Ultrafast Science and Technology) and the German Cluster of Excellence RESOLV (Ruhr Explores Solvation) propose to establish the new Postdoctoral Fellowship Program FP-RESOMUS. FP-RESOMUS will be integrated in and fed by the two national networks of research teams, bringing together over 70 research groups covering the fields of chemistry, physics, material sciences, engineering, and biology to solve interdisciplinary scientific questions using the latest available technology and theoretical insights. Both RESOLV and the NCCR MUST operate at the frontiers of what is technically possible, in large parts complementary in focussing on fundamental and applied research on ultrafast processes and solvation.
Building on the existing cooperation between the two networks, the FP-RESOMUS is well placed to attract postdoctoral fellows from all around the world (incoming), further promote the exchange of postdoctoral researchers between the two networks (outgoing) as well as enabling the return of Swiss and German researchers who have worked overseas into a European research environment (reintegration).
It is our vision that novel technologies, advanced modeling techniques, and the spirit of our thriving networks create an ideal environment for high-level postdoctoral research projects. Our program will provide Europe with a new generation of researchers in ultrafast and solvation sciences and therefore considerably improve the research quality of the ERA.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

MSCA-COFUND - Co-funding of regional, national and international programmes (COFUND)

Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
