Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

SPECTO Bowling 2.0 (upgrade of SPECTO Bowling 1.0) unique combination of sensor with advanced motion capture provides the ability to measure almost all parameters during a bowling event and make it instantly usable for display over TV-broadcasts, mobile devices, web services, etc. This ability creates an immersive scenario and elevates the bowling sport in several aspects: viewers get more engaged in the game, coaches and athletes have a detailed review of the bowling performance and bowling centers can upgrade their systems to a more advanced solution.
In the last 4 months, as we worked with the technical & commercial development of SPECTO Bowling® 2.0 and gathered feedback from different stakeholders in the sports industry, we discovered the opportunity for expansion which lead to validation of our technology in Curling and Biathlon sports followed by huge market potential and commercial validation in Track & Field sports. Accordingly, we have redefined our technical development & commercial strategy with focus on Track and Field- SPECTO Athletics.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

Technical analysis of the SPECTO Bowling® 2.0 and the adaptation to Track and Field sports including initial development, adaptations to technology have been evaluated and validated which will be a key focus for Phase 2.
As a result of market analysis, we identified Track and Field as the primary market of €17 billion to focus for Ph2 application, and the corresponding business model as a combination of licensing through Technology providers & distributors and mobile app monetization with sports fans. We have signed agreements with well-established venues, broadcasters, result providers and athletic associations to exhibit and demonstrate the functionality of our SPECTO Athletics technology.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

SPECTO Athletics enables a new way of following your favorite athlete, no matter if you're a coach, the athlete himself, a research organization or a fan. Getting real-time comparable data on their performance is unprecedented.. Sales projections were defined for 4 years after full-scale market launch with the launch targeting specific major events rather than geographical focus. As a result of our financial feasibility, we are looking at an investment of €2.3 million to commercialize SPECTO Athletics and we expect a breakeven at Year 2 of full scale commercialization with ROI of 6.31 in Year 2 growing from Year 1 revenue of €1.7 million to €22.3 million in Year 4 by monetizing hardware, licensing data services and mobile app.
