Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

"By 2050, the EU-28 wants to achieve CO2 emissions reductions by 80-95% compared to the 1990 levels. This will require a process of ""decarbonising"" Europe's economy, including the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies in the transportation sector.
TuWing has developed X-TEC, a revolutionary truck upgrade with significant fuel saving potential, combined with a low production cost that will be highly attractive for end-users. X-TEC is an all-new, ground-breaking and reliable technology providing at least 15% fuel saving for trucks without logistical disadvantages.

The objective of H2020 Ph1 project is the examination of the technical and commercial feasibility of the XTEC product.

At the end of the project, it was shown by means of different successful completed research and survey studies within Ph1 that the XTEC product is technically and commercially feasible.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

1) A technical road-map including innovation management and usability testing planning was prepared for XTEC.
2) A detailed study about the potential further development steps of the TRL6 product was prepared for the most promising market segments of XTEC.
3) Strategic cooperation opportunities were identified and reviewed for further development of XTEC.
4) The IP protection strategy was updated and further extended.
5) Market requirements and regulatory issues were identified and summarized.
6) Different fuel saving technologies from potential future competitors are discussed.
7) A customer survey was conducted.
8) The market potential and market exploitation of XTEC are shown.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

We will continue to strengthen the development process of our X-TEC technology by involving further technical cooperation partners, but also our future customers by taking their needs and suggestions into close consideration.

Our market research has indicated high scalability so that a significant amount of existing long-haul trucks at specific niche markets in EU, but also worldwide can be equipped with our fuel saving package XTEC. Significant fuel saving and high scalability are excellent boundary conditions to reduce measureable the truck fleet emissions in specific niche markets and to support the EU road transportation targets by 2050.

TUWING UG wants to apply for Phase II with the X-TEC product. This will be most likely a tailored customer application.
