Project description
Smart streetlights with monitoring capabilities on the path to market
Spain-based company EKIONA specialises in solar lighting solutions for bicycle paths, pedestrian malls, sports fields, parks, rural paths, roundabouts, roads and parking lots. The solar-powered streetlights developed and manufactured are found in urban, residential, industrial and recreational venues. They fit in seamlessly with the surrounding environment because the photovoltaic panel, battery and electronic control unit are located in the upper part of the lamp post, thus preventing possible damage owing to vandalism or flooding. The EU-funded E-FREE project aims to develop streetlights that also integrate real-time monitoring functionalities. By collecting and analysing data, smart streetlights serve as essential infrastructure for smart cities, improving citizens’ quality of life.
